Lastminute.com Reviews
everyone has heard of lastminute.com
but how many people know they have an auction section? the items
on offer vary from week but week but there is a definite chance
of picking up a superb bargain.
the website is part of the main lastminute site.
just look for the auction link. navigation is easy and as quick
as any other on my far from top notch pc. there is a brief description
of the item for auction, together with reserve price, bids already
made (if any) and the closing date and time. most of these are fairly
short term with hotels and airlines trying to clear unsold rooms/seats
as the date approaches.
the bid procedure is straightforward. you log
in and enter your bid. if you are subsequently outbid you will be
advisd by email. when i last used this site there was no bid robot
so you have to be on your toes. credit card details or similar are
required to confirm your seriousness.
items vary between lastminute itself and its
partners, who are all large and respected companies.
to give an example of what is on offer i will
relate a personal experience. we moved to an old house in early
1999 and spent all our time and money trying to make it habitable.
therefore summer 2000 saw us with no holiday plans. but wait (gasp
from audience) what's this on lastminute? why i do believe it is
bed and breakfast at a four star hotel and leisure complex in northern
scotland. and furthermore i do believe it is £10 per person
for a double room, including leisure club membership for two days.
at this price we can even take the spawn of the devil (our two teenage
kids) with us (and put them in their own room!)
and so it came to pass that the livingstone
crew enjoyed a sunday/monday break in the pleasant town of nairn
and partook of steam rooms and saunas and turkish baths and jacuzzis
and other pastimes of the idle rich. breakfast itself was a order
what you want as often as you want.
so what was the catch? one: the timing, a Sunday
night only suited us because it was during the school holidays and
my wife was also off work. Two: it was only advertised on the Friday,
closing on the Saturday so it was a very limited window of opportunity.
But remember this site the next time you have
a long weekend and nothing planned. It beats plastering walls hands
down.
